Born in Minsk, Belarus, Sophia's journey has been one of both internal and external transformation. She first made waves during the casting of Top Model, when she openly shared with the judges that she is a transgender woman. This moment was not only a personal revelation but also a statement of courage in a country where transgender individuals often face severe societal challenges. As she explained during the casting, the decision to leave Belarus was a result of the oppressive environment for transgender people in her home country.

Sophia’s story is one of deep personal conflict and profound courage. From a young age, she felt a strong disconnect between her physical self and her gender identity. "I felt like I was a girl, but the world around me said otherwise," she revealed in an interview. Growing up in Belarus, Sophia did not have the support she needed to express her true identity. Although her parents struggled to understand and accept her feelings, it was her grandparents who provided the comfort and acceptance she longed for. "I have fond memories of spending time with my grandparents. They gave me dolls to play with, allowed me to wear dresses, and they always let me be myself. I never had to explain myself to them," Sophia recalls. However, her parents were not as understanding. Her father was particularly resistant, and their relationship deteriorated over time. The struggle to find acceptance at home, coupled with the restrictive social atmosphere in Belarus, made it clear to Sophia that she needed to leave. At 17, she moved to Poland, a decision she later described as both liberating and necessary. “In Belarus, I couldn’t be who I am. I had to escape,” she said. The transition to Poland opened the door to a new life - one where she could explore her true identity without the fear of judgment and persecution.

Upon arriving in Poland, Sophia’s journey toward becoming her true self began in earnest. She took the bold step of undergoing hormone replacement therapy (HRT), something she had longed for but had been unable to pursue in Belarus due to the country’s stringent and invasive medical processes. In Poland, she was able to access the necessary healthcare and undergo the transformation that would help her align her body with her true identity. Sophia's decision to transition was not an impulsive one. As she explained to the Top Model judges, "It wasn’t a matter of waking up one day and saying, ‘Now I’m going to be a woman.’ It has been part of me since childhood." This deep-rooted understanding of her gender identity guided her through the often difficult process of transitioning, both physically and emotionally.

Sophia's participation in Top Model was not just an opportunity to showcase her modeling skills but also a chance to open up about her identity in a public space. In one of the episodes, she bravely shared her story with her fellow contestants, revealing that she is a transgender woman. “I never told anyone here about this before, but I am a transgender woman,” Sophia confessed, explaining that she had struggled with whether or not to share her story, but ultimately decided to do so in the hopes of using it for a positive purpose. The reaction from her fellow contestants and the Top Model crew was overwhelmingly supportive. One of the participants, Arek, expressed his admiration for Sophia’s courage, saying, “By telling us, she is showing us that she trusts us.” Another contestant, Weronika, was initially shocked but quickly expressed her admiration for Sophia’s bravery and strength. This sense of solidarity and understanding from her peers was an important step for Sophia, helping her feel validated and embraced in a way she had never experienced before. Despite the challenges, Sophia’s time on Top Model became a pivotal moment in her personal growth. The experience helped her build confidence and self-acceptance, essential qualities for anyone, especially someone who has faced the kind of adversity she has.

Sophia’s story is not just about overcoming the odds to succeed in the modeling world; it’s also about navigating complex personal relationships. In addition to her professional aspirations, Sophia has also managed to find love. She is currently in a relationship with her boyfriend, whom she met online. “I told him about my past right away,” Sophia shared. “I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time. If he couldn’t accept me for who I am, then we wouldn’t be able to continue.” Her openness was met with acceptance and support, which has been essential for her emotional well-being. "He had no previous experience with transgender people, but he was open-minded and willing to get to know me," Sophia says. This kind of support has been vital for Sophia, particularly after her experiences with rejection and misunderstanding from her parents. Although her relationship with her mother has improved over time - especially after Sophia took the step of becoming independent and living in Poland - her relationship with her father remains distant. "I haven’t spoken to my father in ten years," Sophia shared, adding that she still doesn’t know what led to the estrangement. However, Sophia’s mother has come to terms with her daughter’s decision to transition, and now supports her fully.

While Top Model provided Sophia with a platform to share her story and build confidence, she is already thinking beyond modeling. Having recently completed her studies in international relations, she is now focused on opening her own business. Modeling is still a passion for her, but she views it more as a hobby at this stage in her life. She continues to find joy in fashion and the creative process but is looking forward to expanding her horizons in other fields. On social media, Sophia has cultivated a loyal following, with nearly 19,000 Instagram followers who appreciate her authenticity and openness. She regularly shares insights into her personal journey, offering a glimpse into her life as a transgender woman navigating the complexities of self-discovery, love, and career. In one of her posts, Sophia shared an important life lesson: “A few years ago, I realized how much the energy of others affects me. I believe some people come into your life as a lesson. If your relationships don’t bring love and happiness, you need to cut them off.”

This sentiment reflects her ongoing commitment to personal growth and her desire to surround herself with positivity and support. Sophia Mokhar's story is one of immense courage, transformation, and empowerment. From her early years in Belarus, where she faced rejection and a lack of understanding, to her move to Poland, where she finally began to live authentically, Sophia's journey has been anything but easy. However, her perseverance, combined with the support of her loved ones and newfound friends, has allowed her to flourish. Her time on Top Model was just one chapter in a much larger story. As Sophia continues to pursue her dreams, both within and beyond the fashion industry, her message of self-acceptance, courage, and authenticity serves as an inspiration to many. For Sophia, the journey is far from over - it's only just beginning.
